Begin Again

Whatever you want in life, start today.
Not tomorrow - today.
Let it be a small beginning - a tiny beginning.
Your happiness depends on starting today - every day.

We often think of our weight loss goals when we read things like this. Maybe we let our lives revolve around this too much?

Each day can be one where we have many things we want out of life. Better relationships? Could you leave encouraging notes somewhere where people in your family will find them and can read them at work or at school maybe?

Have you been putting off beginning an exercise program? Could you just walk around the block or up and down the road one time as a start? Do you have a piece of exercise equipment that you could use for maybe 15 minutes?

A friend of mine said for Christmas each year she buys a calendar for each of her three daughters. On that calendar she writes in the birthdays of everyone in the family, anniversaries, etc., and gives one to each daughter. There are printable calendar pages on the internet. I am going to do that too and add a directory of addresses and email addresses. This will be an inexpensive Christmas gift that will mean a lot, be kept for future reference, and cost very little. I gave a sheet to be filled out for each household in the family with this information to be filled in for me. I think on the Wal-Mart site pages with family pictures can be done but am not sure. These would be great gifts for family members that live far away.

I guess we have to decide what we want in life before we can begin it. It has to be more specific than things like "be happy" or "be rich".  Scroll down - my pasting didn't work like I wanted and I couldn't delete the blank space :-(

A Donkey's Tale
One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he quietened down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.

2. Free your mind from worries - Most never happen.

3. Live simply and appreciate what you have.

4. Give more.

5. Expect less.

  2. Today; not tomorrow. Don't dismiss small beginnings.

Two "biggie" things for me to remember & practice! Have a great week, Myra.
